Adele is a 22-year old Tottenham-born singer/songwriter who learned to play music at the the Brit School for Performing Arts & Technology, a school funded by de BRIT Awards. In 2009 she won the EBBA-award for her debut album ‘19’. Her debut album is all about ‘being 18 or 19 year old and in love’.
Even though her musical preferences might have changed while growing up, she always liked to be the center of attention. In her childhood she’d give little concerts for her mother and her friends impersonating The Spice Girls and Gabrielle. During one of these shows her father’s best friend, a dance producer, called her voice ‘wicked’ and invited her to record a cover of ‘Heart of Glass’.
In 2006 she graduated the Brit School. She gained some attention as opener of Jack Peñate, but things really started taking off after she posted three songs on her MySpace. She was invited by XL Records, was signed by them and recorded ’19’. ‘19’ turned out to be a huge success, reaching #1 in album charts in the Netherlands and the UK, and high positions in and top ten-position in several other countries, including the US and the single ‘Chasing Pavements’ was an international hit. Her new album, called ‘21’, will be released shortly.
